Checkmate Chess & Checkers Board Game Card Making

Here are board game greeting cards featuring chess and checkers.

Hi friends. I have a double the fun treat for you today. Here are board game greeting cards featuring chess and checkers. It was so fun creating these unique designs and patterns. The techniques involve simple die-cuts, Betterpress sentiments, a 3D embossing folder and layering stencils. Each card was made using similar supplies, yet accenting two different games. This card project features the Spellbiniders Paper Arts super fun new Checkmate Collection. Specifically, I worked with Chess and Checkers dies, Layered Harlequin Stencil and Harlequin 3D Embossing Folder. I include project tips, a short video and supplies below.

To begin, here is a look at the finished chess card.
Sentiment: Happy Birthday. Let the games begin.

Next up is the checkers card.
Sentiment: Lucky you. Happy Birthday.

Helpful Tips:

  • Prepare two vertical A2 card bases in white cardstock.

  • Die-cut and assemble the chess and checkers etched dies, cut-out pieces with cardstock and ink blending for color.

  • Die-cut two white backgrounds using rectangle dies.

  • For the sentiments, press and die-cut them in black ink and in different color cardstock using the Shuffling Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set.

  • Spritz the white background panels with water and add embossing using the Harlequin Embossing Folder.

  • Stencil and ink blend two different game boards, one for checkers and one for chess, using Layered Harlequin Stencils.

  • Position the two background panels in a wonky fashion onto the card base, trimming away the excess paper overages.

  • Using flat and foam double-sided tape, layer everything onto the card front.

Finally, here is a closer look at the card projects.
